When I read the first Downside Ghosts book I enjoyed it, but put off reading the rest for quite a while. After finishing book #2, I knew I couldn't put off reading more and jumped into 'City of Ghosts' the moment I got my hands on it. By far the best Downside Ghosts book yet. The first two books were too similar to each other: get a case, find out someone's lying, toss down a million pills to drown out any troubles. The was no official debunking this time, although there was am official case Chess was working on.I loved the action in this book, there was a lot more crawling through tunnels and fighting off evil magic. While the ghosts were still present, I really enjoyed seeing Chess do something other than Debunking. I think one of the reasons I liked this book more than the others was Chess's drug habit...it's not a main focus. She does still take a lot more pills than I'm comfortable with, but she's not thinking about them on every page and there were no crazy withdrawal scenes. Best parts of the book were the Chess and Terrible scenes. 4.5/5 stars
